Additional scholarship opportunities
At Northwest Nazarene University, we’ve made financial aid as easy as possible by streamlining the process! For example, to receive one of NNU’s academic scholarships, no additional application forms are required beyond the Application for Admission. Rather, every student who applies and meets the GPA and ACT/SAT score requirements for one of our academic scholarships is guaranteed to receive the award! To learn more about which academic scholarship you qualify for, go to our Financial Aid website.
Beyond academic scholarships, NNU offers additional scholarship opportunities for students involved in athletics, music and forensics. To pursue these scholarship opportunities, complete the following steps:
Students interested in playing a collegiate sport at NNU should begin by completing the Prospective Crusader Athletic Recruitment Form for their corresponding sport found on the NNU Sports website. This information will be sent to the appropriate coaches for review, giving them opportunity to begin the recruitment process with the student.
The Engineering Excellence Scholarship is available to engineering majors and is a $3,000 add-on to the NNU $14,000 President’s Scholarship for a total of $17,000. It is renewable for up to four years with a qualifying GPA. Please visit the Engineering Department webpage for application and more information. (Application deadline: April 30, 2016)
Forensics (Speech & Debate)
Students interested in pursuing involvement and potential scholarships for competing with the Forensics team should contact Coach Brooke Adamson about the availability of these awards.
Ministerial scholarships are available through the School of Theology and Christian Ministries. These scholarships are available to students at NNU who have a major and minor in the School of Theology and Christian Ministries and are members of the Church of the Nazarene. Please visit the School of Theology and Christian Ministries webpage for more information.
Students that sing or play an instrument are welcome to join Northwest Nazarene University’s many bands, choirs and ensembles regardless of their major! Many NNU students involved in music receive a scholarship for their skill and participation. Students interested in pursuing a music scholarship should schedule an audition with the NNU Department of Music. Simply call the music department at 208-467-8413 to schedule your 10 minute audition or incorporate an audition in to an official campus visit.
After pursuing every scholarship opportunity at NNU, we encourage students and parents to explore scholarships close to home. Depending on the church you attend, you may be eligible for a church matching scholarship. Parents, talk to your employers about scholarship opportunities your children may pursue. Many community organizations you may be part of, like rotary clubs, 4-H, and Kiwanis, also offer scholarships to students. To learn more about local community scholarships, your high school guidance counseling office will be a great resource. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds may be eligible to receive scholarships based on their heritage. Again, talk to your high school’s guidance counselor to learn more about these opportunities. If you are a current military member or veteran, there are a variety of scholarship opportunities available to your children. Talk to your local Veteran’s Affairs office to learn more about these scholarships.
We recommend students apply for one outside scholarship per week of their senior year. There are numerous websites available that provide free outside scholarship search tools and information on funding opportunities. Of those, the NNU Office of Financial Aid recommends the following websites to students and parents:
- Americorps.com – The AmeriCorps program provides full-time educational awards in return for community service.
- College-scholarships.com – Search through databases of thousands of scholarship opportunities.
- Fastweb.com – Provides a database of 180,000 private scholarships.
- Freescholarshipguide.com – Directory of links to over 4,000 websites where students can register for scholarships and grants.
- Goarmy.com – Information about funding a college education through the Army or Army Reserve.
See more scholarship opportunities on our First-Time Freshmen Scholarships page. Feel free to contact the Office of Admissions or the Office of Financial Aid if you have questions about any of this information.
